Colour me impressed again this week with the fuel economy of yet another tester. This car has over 240 hp and I tested that fact a few times yet still averaged 7.4 L/100 km over the course of the week; I don’t think one could ask for much more than that!
The auto start/stop feature that shuts the engine down when waiting at lights certainly helps the cause but the real story is the small 2.0L engine that only guzzles the gas when you are in boost.
The brake issue I had went away by the end of the week. I believe that perhaps the discs were just full of deposits from sitting for a few weeks of rain at the dealership. After some extra spirited driving they cleaned up fine and I learned that the 228i feels nimble and balanced with a hint of understeer and even some oversteer.
The 228i is certainly a quieter daily driver than the M235i and it would probably satisfy most when it comes to its performance capabilities as well — a great all-round option for those looking for a sporty luxury coupe, just stay away from those option packages and you’ll get a great deal too.
