It didn’t take long for me to get asked questions about this week’s test vehicle, the 2013 Volkswagen CC. The first question I was asked was if it was that new Hybrid, because of the aggressive ad campaigns. The second question was a simple one: What is that car? It seems the CC catches a bit of attention.

It should catch people’s attention, as it is certainly a handsome looking car and my tester is decked out in R Line trim and an eye-catching Black Oak Brown Metallic paint scheme with Desert Beige Nappa leather interior.

This particular vehicle is powered by the base 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder engine that puts out 200 horsepower and an impressive 207 lb-ft of torque at just 1,700 rpm. It’s also equipped with Volkswagen’s renowned six-speed DSG dual-clutch automated manual gearbox for instant gear shifts and improved fuel economy.

As one expects with press cars, my tester is loaded with the Technology package, which includes Navigation and a Dynaudio 600-watt sound package as well as the R-Line package that includes upgraded 18-inch wheels and R-line door aluminum door sills, special badging, bumpers and side-skirts and sports steering wheel.

All told, this isn’t an inexpensive tester at close to $50,000 but my first impressions are positive as it is luxurious feeling and looking. A sporty looking sedan, that is marketed as a four-door coupe – the doors (both front and rear) are missing window frames which certainly is interesting.

MSRP as tested (including destination): $47,470
