There cannot be a Honda Civic Si review without mentioning the Toyobaru twins, the Toyota FR-S and Subaru BRZ. So hey, let’s get that out of the way right away. The Toyota and Subaru land at about the same price of the Si, and they are about the same power and space/utility as well. But the twins are rear-wheel drive while the Si is front-wheel drive – for hard-core drivers the decision is simple – but believe it or not there are many out there that prefer front-wheel drive for a few reasons.

So we can argue the merits all day (feel free to in the forum) but let’s get to the vehicle at hand: the 2013 Honda Civic Si HFP (Honda Factory Performance). This vehicle is a Honda Civic Si with an installed performance package that includes 18-inch wheels, red floor mats, a body kit, lowering springs and badges.

The Civic Sedan was redesigned in 2013, but Honda just announced that the coupe would be getting its equivalent refresh for 2014. My first impressions are very positive – the carbon-fibre-look dash with leather wrap look is very appealing and sporty.

The Civic certainly has grown up over the years – my tester includes navigation with dual display, cruise control, a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, heated seats, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth and climate control.

I first drove this model in June of 2012 and came away very impressed after trading back-to-back runs on an entertaining autocross course with Danial Morad, now we’ll find out how it performs as a daily driver.

MSRP as tested (including destination): $30,563
