Now that the Prius is a household name and has proven itself as one of the most reliable cars on the road, Toyota has begun to expand the Prius with new body styles designed to appeal to a wider range of potential buyers.

New for 2012 is the Toyota Prius C (for city) and the Toyota Prius V (for versatility) which is the subject of my day-by-day journey for the week. In my driveway is a base model V that starts at $27,200.

The base model comes with most of the essentials including power windows, cruise control, backup camera, Bluetooth, and steering wheel audio controls, as well as temperature control and automatic climate control.

From the outside, the Prius V looks like a Mazda5 to my eye, but when you step inside that all changes, as it looks more futuristic with the central gauge cluster and digital readouts.

Although the V looks like a mini-minivan, it is only a five-seater, but one with plenty of passenger space and hopefully versatility.
