The Australian V8 Supercar Championship is a big deal Down Under. Here in
Canada, those of you who receive Speedvision can watch the series on TV.
The Tissot watch company is a sponsor in the Aussie series, and has a long
association with motorsports worldwide. So even if you don’t get
Speedvision, you can get the new Tissot V8 Chronograph, designed to
commemorate V8-engined cars of the past and present.
It’s a timepiece for people who like the ruggedness and precision of a Swiss
sports watch, and the classic looks of a sports car dashboard.
And fortunately for you, Autos, in conjunction with Tissot Canada,
is making available a Tissot V8 Chronograph as the prize in our April
Like the big V8 cars, this is a big watch. The case is 43mm in diameter, and
contains a Swiss ETA G10.211 quartz movement. The Tissot V8 has 1/10 of a
second counter, 60-second counter, 30-minute counter, with ADD and SPLIT
The winner of this contest will receive the T36.1.486.31 model. It has a
full stainless-steel case with tachymeter bezel, and a stainless steel
bracelet. The ivory face features silver sub-dials and the brushed steel
case and lugs are highlighted by polished edges, with an alternating matte
and brilliant finish.
A further detail, the crimped-edged pushers combine decoration with
functionality, in that they help to protect the watch from shocks. The
crystal is sapphire glass, and the watch is water resistant to 100 metres.
Tissot, by the way, is the official timekeeper of the world championships
for hockey, motorcycling, fencing and cycling. 2003 is the company’s 150th
anniversary, which explains the “1853” on the V8 Chronograph face.
