Want a Mercedes-Benz ML Class without the cargo space? Here you go.
Also, if you are somewhat confused by the nomenclature, there’s a primer: the GLE Class is the new M/ML Class. The GLE moniker is made by combining GL, which Mercedes will use for all SUVs and crossovers going forward, and E from E Class, representing where the model sits in the lineup compared to the sedans.
Clear as mud? Good.
So, even though the M/ML hasn’t been officially renamed yet, the Coupe version will use the new nomenclature from day one.
While Canadian details won’t be released for months, the GLE Coupe will likely see a base 3.0L diesel V6 engine with 258 hp (GLE 350 d) and two biturbo V6 engines, the top-most option having 367 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque in the GLE 450 AMG (Sport). Details of full-blown Mercedes-AMG model have not been divulged.
All GLE Class models will be equipped with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and send power to those wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Expect the new GLE Class Coupe to land in Canada sometime in late 2015 as a 2016 model. We will see it in the flesh at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
