Track ready Caddy gets Z06 heart with 640 hp
General Motors is in the giving mood this holiday season as they’ve unwrapped the latest Cadillac CTS-V a few weeks earlier than expected.
The third-generation Cadillac CTS-V, available this coming summer, is powered by a detuned version of the 6.2L supercharged V8 engine in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. With 640 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque, the Caddy has enough gumption to achieve a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h). It can also lay down a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds.
Sending power to the rear wheels is a paddle-shift operated eight-speed automatic that foregoes fancy dual-clutch setups for a traditional torque convertor. Unfortunately for us gearheads, there is no manual option as in previous CTS-Vs.
“V-Series represents the very best of the Cadillac brand – the pinnacle of our design and technical capabilities,” said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac president. “The new CTS-V is the most compelling example of Cadillac’s product substance and brand trajectory. The new CTS-V soars into the stratosphere of the most exhilarating luxury cars.”
