New Mercedes-Maybach S 600 to debut at Los Angeles Auto Show
There are changes coming to brand and model nomenclature for Mercedes. The German premium automaker is officially reviving the Maybach brand while renaming other models under the Mercedes-Benz umbrella.
As part of the new Mercedes-Maybach sub-brand, Daimler will take the wraps off the newest addition to the S Class family: the Mercedes-Maybach S 600.
As reported previously, the new model will be heavily reworked from the B-pillar to the back, but will retain the same styling as the S Class. This is in stark contrast to the standalone Maybach brand that restyled the cars as a whole.
Also, Mercedes-Benz has announced a re-aligned model nomenclature, mostly to their SUV line, in order to better compare newer models to their core vehicles.
The following changes will be made to model names:
GLC = GL C-Class; previously GLK
GLE = GL E-Class; previously M-Class or ML
GLS = GL S-Class; previously GL
SLC = SL C-Class; previously SLK
G will remain unchanged while the new GLA and future GLE Coupe fit into this new nomenclature already. Mercedes-Benz will also use a new nomenclature for drive systems, detailed in the slide below.
