2 Series Convertible and X6 will also make North American premieres
What do Americans love? SUVs. When do they want them? Now, and preferably with lots of horsepower.
Wall Street types and Hollywood starlets in a hurry will have to wait just a little longer for high-performance versions of BMW’s X5 and X6 utilities. The M-badged pair will make their world debuts at the Los Angeles Auto Show in just a few weeks time.
The X5 M and X6 M will be powered by the new M TwinPower 4.4-litre V8 engine producing 567 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. All that power will get the pair of hi-po utilities up to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds flat thanks to all-wheel drive and BMW’s new eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.
BMW says the new turbocharged V8 is the most powerful engine ever mated to an all-wheel drive system at the roundeled automaker.
Of course, it isn’t just the M badges and engine that make these new models different. The X5 M and X6 M will also feature an M instrument cluster, M leather steering wheel with paddle shfters, M gearshift lever, M multi-function seats, heads-up display, and a full assortment of comfort goodies.
In short, pick a feature and put the letter M in front of it. That’s what BMW is giving you.
Other than the two new uber utes, BMW will have the 2 Series Convertible and non-M version of the X6 on hand to make their North American debuts.
We’ll have shots from the show floor in November. Until then, here’s the full gallery provided by BMW.
