Over 240 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque finally makes the Sentra exciting
To call the Sentra NISMO a concept is a bit disingenuous. With Nissan on a NISMO kick this year and having every intention of turning NISMO into an all encompassing performance sub-brand, the Sentra NISMO Concept is as production as a concept can get.
Under the hood sits a turbocharged 1.8L engine producing “more than 240 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque” through a six-speed manual gearbox, says Nissan in their press release.
“Fans have asked that we bring back a high-performance Sentra straight from the factory, just like in generations past,” said Nissan Vice President of Product Planning, Pierre Loing. “With NISMO, our in-house motorsports arm already producing versions of the 370Z NISMO, JUKE NISMO, JUKE NISMO RS and upcoming GT-R NISMO, we wanted to demonstrate where we could go in the future.”
The last up-tuned Sentra – the SE-R V-Spec – was based on the previous generation car and used a 2.5L four-cylinder for motivation, developing 200 hp.
Getting power to the ground in this new NISMO model is a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Michelin Super Sport 225/35R19 performance tires and 19-inch RAYS aluminum-alloy wheels provide the unsprung contact patch part of the equation.
A NISMO-style leather/Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and other interior finishes complete the package.
While the Sentra NISMO is being billed as a concept, expect a production announcement early in 2014.
