Montreal, Quebec – The all-new 2010 Honda Insight hybrid has made its Canadian debut at the Montreal International Auto Show. Using the latest generation of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid technology the Insight has an estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 4.8/4.5 L/100 km. It will be launched at Honda dealers through Canada in April and will be priced below the Civic Hybrid.
“Honda Insight offers Canadians great value, a full complement of standard safety features, fun-to-drive performance with the functionality of a hatchback design, and high fuel efficiency with very low emissions for an environmentally responsible car near the middle price range in the Honda line-up,” said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice-president of Honda Canada. “With the introduction of the all-new Insight, we’re opening up Honda’s hybrid technology to a new group of buyers that previously may not have considered a hybrid car because of cost.”
Evoking the “five-door” sedan design first used on the FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car, the new Insight has a low centre of gravity and spacious five-passenger cabin. A new interactive, driver-focused fuel economy enhancement, the Ecological Drive Assist System or Eco Assist, includes a driver-activated economy mode, a speedometer that changes background colour to provide real-time guidance on achieving higher fuel efficiency, and a plant-leaf graphic that indicates current-trip and lifetime fuel-efficient driving performance.
The Insight uses a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine and CVT, along with a new generation of Honda’s hybrid system. With a 40-litre fuel tank, the Insight delivers an estimated maximum driving range of more than 650 km.
