Your auto policy may be best for rental cars, analyst says
Toronto, Ontario – Your auto insurance policy provides the best coverage for rental cars, if you purchase Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Automobiles, reports industry analyst Lee Romanov.
The coverage usually costs around $35 to $50 per year and covers you each time you rent a car. The liability and collision coverage on your policy then covers damage to the rental car, other vehicles, or personal injuries.
Romanov notes that insurance brokers can provide the coverage, but warns that it does not extend to someone else driving the rental car if they are not listed on the policy. There are also dollar limits on the amount of damage and the coverage is only available for personal use, not business.
