Winners of kid’s car-design contest to be displayed at Toronto auto show

Windsor, Ontario – DaimlerChrysler’s “Start Your Engine! Design That Cool Car” contest, which closed on December 31st, 2002, is now in the judging stage, and the results of the contest will be showcased at the Toronto International Auto Show in February 2003. Prizes for the contest include three $2,000 BMO Intuition RESPs, three Fujifilm FinePix 2650 digital cameras and six one-year subscriptions for AOL Canada Internet service along with a “designer” gift basket from Grand & Toy.

The contest asked kids to use their creativity and design their vision of a cool car, truck or their very own concept. The contest was split into three age categories – seven and under, eight to 10 and 11 to 13. Prizes will be awarded in each age group based on innovation and creativity.

The judging of the contest is now underway and the DaimlerChrysler executive panel includes: Ricardo (Rick) Aneiros – Vice President Jeep/Truck Colour and Trim Design; John Mann – Director of Engineering, Research & Development and Shelley Ochs – Manager, Product Planning.

“There’s no doubt the design talent the automotive industry will need in the future comes from today’s children,” said Ed Brust, Chairman, President and CEO, DaimlerChrysler Canada, “…which is why we are encouraging young people to explore their creative skills by entering the Start Your Engine! Design That Cool Car drawing contest.”

According to a recent poll of 1,000 Canadian parents conducted by DaimlerChrysler Canada, after people, vehicles are the most popular item children sketch.
