Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen AG announced it will assemble vehicles in Indonesia, as part of its 2018 growth strategy in Southeast Asia. The company will build Volkswagen models in Jakarta in cooperation with its Indonesian partner company Indomobil.
“Current trends on world markets clearly show how important the timely development of new growth regions is,” said Christian Klingler, of Volkswagen’s sales and marketing. “The only way to secure global growth and safeguard jobs is to focus on tomorrow’s markets today.”
The goal of the partnership with Indomobil is to develop the Indonesian automobile market with locally-built vehicles. Production of partly-assembled Volkswagen brand models will commence this year. The company plans to expand market share in the ASEAN region beyond Indonesia, and to broaden the product offering by adding further vehicles from the Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brands.
