Detroit, Michigan – Volvo Trucks will ramp up production of its heavy-duty Class 8 trucks in the United States, increasing from a rate of 78 to 123 trucks per day.

A new union contract has paved the way for the increase and the return of approximately 700 unionized workers from layoff, according to a statement by the United Auto Workers Union (UAW). The workers will return to the plant in Dublin, Virginia in three stages in May.

The new agreement, which UAW members ratified on March 27, also allows Volvo to be more competitive with other manufacturers that produce Class 8 trucks in the United States and Mexico, the union said.
