Volvo to announce winner of space flight

New York, New York – Volvo Cars of North America and entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson will unveil the winner of a trip on a sub-orbital flight to space on Virgin Airlines’ Galactic aircraft.

The winner will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on March 24.

The contest kicked off during the 2005 Super Bowl, when Volvo introduced its new V8 XC90 SUV with a contest to win a flight on a Virgin spaceship. More than 135,000 people registered for the contest, with a prize valued at US$200,000. Virgin plans to debut commercial space flight within the next two to three years; the winner will receive astronaut training and fly on one of the Galactic’s initial voyages, experiencing weightlessness and a view of the stars and planet Earth below.
