Goteborg, Sweden – Volvo has released pictures of its new C30, a sporty coupe with room for four adults and a unique glass tailgate. The production car retains the presence of the popular C30 Design Concept shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year.

The production C30 will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September, with production beginning at the end of 2006 and sales in Canada starting in early 2007. Worldwide, the company expects to sell 65,000 vehicles per year, with 75 per cent of buyers in Europe. The largest markets are expected to be Italy, Germany, Spain and the U.K.

In Canada, the C30 will come with a 2.4-litre five-cylinder engine delivering 168 hp, or a 218 hp 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine. At 4250 mm overall, it will be the smallest vehicle in the Volvo model range, a full 220 mm shorter than the S40. It will include Volvo’s patented energy-absorbing structure, whiplash and side impact protection system, side and curtain airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and will be available with Volvo’s Blind Spot Information System, which helps the driver to identify another vehicle at the rear sides of the car.
