Göteborg, Sweden – The Volvo Group has announced it will lay off 1,543 employees at its heavy vehicle plants in Sweden, a result of the sharp decline on world markets for the trucks.

The employees affected work at Volvo Trucks, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Penta and Volvo Powertrain.

“We are conducting ongoing discussions with the unions regarding shortening of the working week and view being able to implement parts of these notices with such a solution as positive,” said Stefan Johnsson, of Volvo Group’s human resources. “These agreements are then made locally and are aligned with the needs of the operations.”
