Auburn Hills, Michigan – Volkswagen of America has set a new record with its Touareg V10 TDI at the 2007 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race. Driver Ryan Arciero’s time of 13:17:70 was officially declared the new record holder for the alternative fuel diesel truck high performance showroom stock division. The previous record of 13:34:63 was set in 2000.

Volkswagen raced three diesel-powered Touaregs in the division; second-place driver Mark Miller’s official time of 13:25:24 broke the seven-year-old division record for diesel vehicles by over nine seconds.

Video footage of the race, taken from the Touaregs, can be seen at www.vwvodcasts.com, providing a first-hand perspective of the 20 km race to the summit of Pike’s Peak.
