Paris, France – Dr. Bernd Pischetsrieder, Volkswagen AG’s CEO, and Professor Wilfried Bockelmann, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management for the Technical Development Division, unveiled the new Touareg luxury off-road vehicle at the Paris Motor Show on the weekend.

In Dr. Pischetsrieder’s words: “The Touareg gives Volkswagen access to a new high-growth segment and once again confirms the company’s immense automotive know-how.”

The Touareg is due to be introduced first in Germany this Fall. Initially it will be offered with a 220 horsepower V6 spark-ignition engine or a V10 TDI diesel developing 313 horsepower. The Touareg V6 with six-speed automatic transmission will be sold at 41,350 Euro. The V6 will later be available with a manual gearbox, and also with a new five-cylinder TDI or a new V8 spark-ignition engine.

All Touaregs have 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive and a six-speed gearbox (with the V10 TDI engine automatic transmission is standard).

The Touareg V10 TDI features CDC air suspension (CDC: Continuous Damping Control) which functions both on and off the road.

Volkswagen says the Tourareg combines the characteristics of a high-class off-road vehicle with the comfort and convenience of a large luxury sedan – and the dynamic attributes of a sports car.
