Volkswagen to restructure Brussels facility

Brussels, Belgium – Volkswagen plans to restructure its Brussels location due to excess capacity in Western Europe. The management of Volkswagen Brussels has commenced talks with employee representatives, with the objective of removing the Golf from production in Brussels, and manufacturing it only in Mosel and Wolfsburg.

Volkswagen’s Western European plants are not running at full capacity, and export markets cannot be significantly expanded due to U.S. dollar exchange rates and high import duties in growth markets. The company has initiated a far-reaching restructuring at its German locations, which will ultimately reduce up to 20,000 jobs, and is now restructuring plants in Western Europe as a whole. The Administrative Board has emphasized that it intends to stay at the Brussels location and that it is aware of its responsibility for all employees at the facility.
