Volkswagen signs as Woodward Dream Cruise sponsor

Auburn Hills, Michigan – Volkswagen of America has become a top sponsor of the 12th annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit this weekend, which is expected to draw 40,000 classic cars and two million people. Volkswagen will bring The Thing and the Volkswagen Garage to the event.

“Volkswagen is firmly rooted in the pop culture of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s,” says Steve Keyes, general manager of public relations. “Volkswagen Beetles and vans were commonly found cruising along Woodward Avenue. We’re pleased to be associated with the Woodward Dream Cruise in such a big way this year.”

Volkswagen will send a yellow 1973 Thing cruising along the street, and will offer entertainment and relaxation to the public at the Volkswagen Garage, located at Memorial Park at Woodward and 13 Mile in Royal Oak on Saturday. The Garage will include hammocks, couches, and ping-pong tables; the company will also sell merchandise and give away free hubcap Frisbees.
