Wolfsburg, Germany – Volkswagen has shown the first pictures of its new Tiguan compact SUV, which will be presented to the public in September as part of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany.

Volkswagen will offer the Tiguan exclusively with turbocharged direct injection engines, which significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions. European buyers will have a choice of three gasoline engines and two diesel engines. Both diesels already meet the limits of the Euro-5 standard, which will come into effect in 2009.

The company has set up a Web site, Tiguan Base, which shows the new vehicle’s development stages in photos, films and facts. Volkswagen says that within the first 15 weeks, more than one million people have logged into the site worldwide.
