Volkswagen premieres first BlueMotion vehicle in Geneva

Geneva, Switzerland – Volkswagen has presented its first series production vehicle under the BlueMotion banner, the Polo BlueMotion, at the Geneva Auto Show. The Polo consumes an average of just 3.9 litres of diesel per 100 km, a savings of 0.5 L/100 km over a conventional Polo with the same specifications.

The reduced consumption and emission values are achieved by longer gear ratios, aerodynamic refinements and engine modifications. The Polo BlueMotion is built in Pamplona, Spain, and will be launched in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria and Germany in the summer of 2006.

BlueMotion is Volkswagen’s sustainability campaign and will be developed into a “seal of approval” which will be awarded to the most fuel-efficient vehicles in a model range.
