Beijing, China – Volkswagen has announced new environmental goals for China at the inauguration of its engine plant in Dalian. The goals include a reduction of over 20 per cent in fuel consumption and emissions for models built at the plants operated by FAW-Volkswagen and Shanghai Volkswagen by 2010.

Environmental protection was the central theme at the opening of the Volkswagen engine plant in China on Friday. The plant is designed for an annual capacity of 300,000 engines; Volkswagen says it will meet its goals with modern TFSI engines, innovative transmissions and lightweight design, among other initiatives. The company says it will also arrange for the certification of all of its production sites in China to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard by the end of 2007.
