Ajax, Ontario – Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new Jetta at a special event in Times Square in New York City. The new model is a complete redesign of the car that has sold over 400,000 units in Canada during the five generations since its introduction in 1980, placing it second only to the original Beetle in overall sales since Volkswagen Canada’s inception in 1952.
In Canada, the new Jetta will be offered with three gasoline engines and one TDI Clean Diesel turbodiesel direct-injection engine. A new engine is the entry-level 115-horsepower gasoline engine, along with the 2.5-litre five-cylinder gasoline engine at 170 horsepower, a turbocharged 2.0-litre direct-injection gasoline TSI engine at 200 horsepower, and the diesel at 140 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged 2.0-litre will also power the top model Jetta GLI in North America starting in 2011.
Compared with the previous fifth-generation Jetta, the new model is longer overall, and with a longer wheelbase, providing more space and comfort.
The new Jetta will go on sale in Canada this fall, with pricing announced in July.
