Volkswagen donates musical instruments to soldiers overseas

Auburn Hills, Michigan – Volkswagen of America, in collaboration with First Act, has announced its support for Operation Happy Note, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to sending musical instruments to deployed soldiers. Volkswagen has donated 250 First Act electric guitars and amplifiers to service men and women expressing an interest in music.

Through letters and emails, Operation Happy Note receives requests for instruments from soldiers stationed overseas, many of whom were forced to forgo their instruments once they left the U.S.

“The Volkswagen brand continues to celebrate music and this was a small way to show our gratitude to our troops,” said Steve Keyes, Director of Communications for Volkswagen of America. “We are very appreciative of our service men and women and are thankful to have the opportunity to donate these guitars to such a worthy and special organization like Operation Happy Note.”

Since March of 2005, Operation Happy Note has sent hundreds of instruments, including guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, harmonicas and accessories to service men and women requesting them.
