Vancouver, B.C. – Volkswagen Canada has announced pricing for the new 2009 Jetta TDI diesel model: the Jetta TDI sedan starts at $24,275 while the Jetta TDI Wagon starts at $25,775.
Both models will be available for test drives this summer at VW dealerships, but won’t go on sale until the fall.
VW’s new 2.0-litre turbocharged 16 valve SOHC four-cylinder diesel engine features new common rail direct fuel injection with high pressure injectors to more precisely meter fuel into the combustion chambers to improve performance, fuel economy and emissions. The 2.0-litre engine makes 140 horsepower and 235 lb-ft torque, an improvement over the previous 1.9-litre TDI’s 100 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque.
The new TDI Clean Diesel engine is designed to run on today’s low sulphur diesel fuel which means less emissions produced per kilometer travelled. The engine is also designed for bio-diesel, an even “cleaner” fuel that will be increasingly available.
