New feature spots for MKZ get existential again with McConaughey
Remember those Lincoln MKC spots with Matthew McConaughey being all existential and above it all? Well, they seem to have worked for the new crossover, so Lincoln is at it again with a new round of ads featuring the Lincoln MKZ and MKZ Hybrid.
Again directed by Nicolas Winding Refn of Driven, the spots put McConaughey in the driver seat yet again with less dialogue and more symbolism. According to Lincoln Motor Company, this is what the spots attempt to convey:
In the spot “Diner,” McConaughey and Refn use a small neighborhood restaurant in Silver Lake to create a dramatic narrative highlighting features of Lincoln MKZ. The ad emphasizes the car’s sleek exterior, open interior, push-button start, MyLincoln Touch™ driver connectivity system and available retractable panoramic roof.
In the ad “Balance,” McConaughey is seen in Griffith Park in front of the L.A. skyline while pondering the MKZ Hybrid’s balance of beautiful design and fuel efficiency. Urban and rural imagery, nicely juxtaposed, underscores the idea that luxury car buyers need not compromise on style to be environmentally responsible.
Now, if Lincoln could just get their dealers up to snuff…
