Vehicle importation from the U.S. requires several steps, Transport Canada warns
Ottawa, Ontario – Importing a vehicle from the U.S. to Canada is not as simple as buying a car, driving it to the border and paying some duty, warns Transport Canada. The agency says that there are a number of steps that must be taken and questions that must be answered first.
Among the questions are the makes and models of vehicles that can be imported into Canada, what (if any) modifications are required, if there is a recall on a particular vehicle, if the province has requirements that must be met, what documentation is required, what duty and taxes must be paid, and how the vehicle can be moved without permanent license plates.
Links to information on importation and a list of vehicles that may be imported can be found at Transport Canada’s website.
