University of Toronto Police use Ford Hybrid for community policing
Toronto, Ontario – On September 7, led by a piper and escorted by Toronto Police bicycle units, the University of Toronto Police Service (UTPS) will debut its new Ford Escape Hybrid support vehicle.
A first for Canadian universities, the vehicle represents a logical step in the University’s commitment to campus greening and sustainability. The UTPS, founded in 1904, is responsible for the safety and security of more than 75,000 students, faculty and staff on three campuses. The UTPS’ special constables are appointed by the province and managed by the Toronto Police Service Board; in addition to emergency response, they have the authority to deal with criminal and provincial offences.
