U.S. National Insurance Crime Bureau launches free “VINCheck” to detect unrecovered stolen vehicles

Des Plaines, Illinois – The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) in the U.S. has launched a free service to help protect consumers from purchasing stolen vehicles. Over one million vehicles are stolen annually in the United States, with a recovery rate of just 63 per cent.

The free online service checks a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) through a database to determine if it has been reported stolen by any of NICB’s member insurance companies.

To use the service, visit NICB.org and follow the on-screen directions for the VINCheck search feature from the home page.
