U.S. hybrid sales rise to second-highest month ever

Washington, D.C. – Sales of hybrid vehicles in the U.S. climbed to 21,566 units in April, the second-highest month after the 23,307 sold in August 2005. The figures are 20.7 per cent more than in March 2006, and 3 per cent higher than April 2005.

Toyota remains the hybrid leader, with 66 per cent of the total; the Prius marked its best results of the year, with 8,234 sold, an increase of 3.9 per cent from March 2006, but down 27 per cent from the 11,345 units sold in April 2005. The company says that demand for the car continues to outstrip the supply.
