Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Energy has launched a new online vehicle cost calculator, which lets drivers compare lifetime operating costs and emissions of specific vehicle models, including conventional cars and trucks, and vehicles running on alternative fuels such as electricity, ethanol, natural gas or biodiesel.

The new calculator, developed by the department’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, drivers can make side-by-side comparisons between vehicles 1996 and newer.

The calculator also lets users enter information such as driving habits, location, fuel price and potential tax credits to personalize the results, and includes more than 20 other online tools including the location of alternative fuel stations.

The calculator can be found at Alternative Fuels and Advanced Vehicles Data Center.
