U.S. gets new clean diesel fuel nationwide

Washington, D.C. – Clean, ultra-low-sulphur diesel fuel (ULSD) went nationwide in the U.S. yesterday; the new fuel, which is 97 per cent cleaner than old diesel fuel, has been mandated across the country.

Commercial freight-hauling diesel trucks will be the first adopters of the new technology; they are required to have advanced emissions filters by January 1, 2007 that will only be able to run on the new clean fuel. Combined with ULSD, the filters eliminate 98 per cent of emissions.
