Two millionth vehicle built at GM’s CAMI plant in Ontario
Ingersoll, Ontario – The two millionth vehicle, a silver Chevrolet Equinox, has been built at GM’s CAMI Automotive plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. That vehicle is also the first in the automotive industry to be both engineered and manufactured in Canada.
“Producing two million vehicles at CAMI is a reflection of the success of our exciting new vehicles, the high quality of the CAMI workforce and our continued investments in engineering and manufacturing in Canada,” said Michael Grimaldi, president, General Motors of Canada. “With a combination of style, functionality and value, the Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent are competing in the sweet spot of one of the hottest segments in our industry today.”
The Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent were engineered at GM’s Canadian Regional Engineering Centre in Oshawa, Ontario, with assembly at CAMI Automotive. The addition of the Torrent added 700 jobs to the CAMI plant.
