Transport Canada issues latest recalls for Hyundai, GM, and wheelchair-accessible Ford Freestar

Transport Canada has issued the following recalls for affected vehicles:

2005 Hyundai Elantra
2005 Hyundai Tiburon

Vehicles affected: 533
On certain vehicles, the inner tie rod assemblies may crack and eventually break. Dealers will replace the steering rack assembly.

2005 Buick Allure

Vehicles affected: 7,442
On certain vehicles, the clip that secures the brake pushrod to the brake pedal arm pin could have been bent during assembly. A bent clip may come off, allowing the brake booster pushrod to separate; if this happens, pushing on the pedal will not apply the brakes. Dealers will install a new brake pedal pushrod bushing and retaining clip; if the pin was missing, a new brake pedal arm assembly will be installed.

2002-2004 Saturn L-Series Wagon

Vehicles affected: 1,414
Certain vehicles were built with a centre and passenger side rear seat belt anchor that fails to conform to CMVSS 210. The seat belt anchor may separate from the floor of the vehicle before holding the required test load for the required time. Dealers will install a rear seat centre belt anchor reinforcement plate to the vehicle’s floor.

2004 Buick Rendezvous
2004 Pontiac Aztek

Vehicles affected: 3,760
On certain vehicles, contamination on ignition relay contacts can cause high resistance. This can affect signals to the powertrain control module, which could result in intermittent engine stalling. Dealers will replace the ignition relay.

1999-2005 Chevrolet full-size pickup
1999-2005 Chevrolet Silverado
1999-2005 GMC full-size pickup
1999-2005 GMC Sierra

Vehicles affected: 14,000
On certain 1999-2002 1500 series and 2001-2005 2500 and 3500 series equipped with a manual transmission, the parking brake friction lining may wear to an extent that the parking brake may not immobilize a parked vehicle. Dealers will install a low-force spring clip retainer on vehicles equipped with PBR parking brake system, or install a redesigned parking brake cable assembly on vehicles equipped with a TRW parking brake system.

2003-2005 Cadillac Escalade
2003-2005 Cadillac Escalade ESV
2003-2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT
2003-2005 Chevrolet Avalanche
2003-2005 Chevrolet full-size pickup
2003-2005 Chevrolet Silverado
2003-2005 Chevrolet Suburban
2003-2005 Chevrolet Tahoe
2003-2005 GMC full-size pickup
2003-2005 GMC Sierra
2003-2005 GMC Yukon
2003-2005 GMC Yukon XL
2003-2005 Hummer H2

Vehicles affected: 75,507
On certain vehicles, the second row centre occupant seat belt routing may make it difficult to position the lap portion of the safety belt low around the hips of occupants. The higher routing allows the lap belt to ride up on an occupant’s abdomen. Dealers will modify the guide loop.

2004-2005 Ford Freestar by Liberty Motor Company

Vehicles affected: 19
Certain Ford Freestar vehicles modified for wheelchair accessibility by Liberty Motor Company Inc. have only one set of lower universal anchors instead of the required two sets on the second-row bench seat. Certain vehicles do not have tether anchor brackets for the bench’s two outboard seating positions. This prevents proper installation of a child seat. Owners should contact Liberty Motor Company and then take their vehicles to a Ford dealership to have two tether anchors and two UAS brackets installed.
