Transport Canada issues latest recalls

Ottawa, Ontario – Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some Toyota, Nissan, Lamborghini, Ford, Mitsubishi, General Motors and DaimlerChrysler vehicles.

1999-2000 Chevrolet full-size pickup
1999-2000 Chevrolet Silverado
1999-2000 GMC full-size pickup
1999-2000 GMC Sierra

On certain vehicles, the galvanized-braid-steel tailgate support cables used to support the tailgate in the full open horizontal position can corrode over time and fracture when loads are applied to them. The corrosion may not be visible because of the plastic sheathing covering the cable. Dealers will replace the existing cables with stainless steel support cables.

On certain vehicles, the front windshield wiper motor armature shaft may break, resulting in loss of windshield wiping capability. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the motor.

2005-2006 Ford Freestar
Vehicles affected: 3,158

On certain vehicles equipped with the optional power liftgate, the liftgate may fall freely without warning in the event of a strut malfunction. Dealers will reprogram the power liftgate module with a software version that will allow the motor to sense a falling liftgate and prevent lowering in the event of strut failure.

2006 Toyota Tacoma
Vehicles affected: 181

On certain vehicles, the tire bead may have been damaged due to improper assembly of the tires onto the wheels. There is a possibility that a bulge may form on the sidewall and/or may leak in the area of the damaged bead. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the tires.

2006 Nissan Titan
Vehicles affected: 68

Certain King Cab vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 206 for door locks and door retention components; the right side rear door upper latch assembly may not sustain loads specified by the standard. Dealers will replace the latch assembly.

2006 Lamborghini Gallardo
Vehicles affected: 14

On certain vehicles, the bolted connections on the suspension’s double wishbones may come loose over time or under extreme loading. This could lead to a reduction in vehicle stability. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the double wishbone suspension.

2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor
Vehicles affected: 122

On certain vehicles, the metal used to manufacture the front disc brake caliper may be brittle due to improper metallurgy. This could lead to breakage of the caliper. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the calipers.
