Ottawa, Ontario – Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some Volkswagen, BMW, Dodge, Cadillac and Jaguar vehicles, and some Firestone tires.
2009 Volkswagen Passat
2009 Volkswagen Passat CC
2009 Volkswagen Passat Wagon
Vehicles affected: 20
On certain vehicles, an electromechanical steering control unit may have a malfunction due to a damaged capacitor. If this occurs, steering input will not be properly processed, and the vehicle may not respond as the driver intends. This defect can only occur immediately after vehicle start-up when the wheel is moved for the first time, and at a speed less than 8 km/h (5 mph). Attempts to overcome the system during this situation will cause vibrations in the steering wheel, the steering system motor to turn off, the red steering system malfunction indicator light to illuminate, and audible warnings to chime, which will alert the driver of the malfunction. Dealers will replace the steering gear.
2008-2009 BMW M3
Vehicles affected: 133
On certain vehicles equipped with the multistage downshifting of the double-clutch gearbox, in some cases involving rapid vehicle deceleration, the transmission software may perform a multistage downshift. In this situation, the clutch is open for approximately 200 milliseconds; when this occurs, positive gear engagement is interrupted. In conjunction with the engine’s overrun fuel cut-off at low speed, there is a possibility for the engine to stall. Dealers will reprogram the Engine Electronic Control Module with updated software.
2009 Dodge Ram
Vehicles affected: 70
Certain vehicles may have English-only airbag warning labels on the sun visors. Dealers will install bilingual warning labels on all affected vehicles.
2006-2009 Dodge Charger
2006-2008 Dodge Magnum
Vehicles affected: 730
On certain vehicles, the gearshift cable may become disengaged from the steering column mounting bracket and cause an incorrect transmission gearshift position display. This could allow the vehicle to move inadvertently. Dealers will install a redundant locking mechanism to ensure proper retention and shift linkage function.
2009 Cadillac CTS
Vehicles affected: 453
On certain vehicles, and under certain conditions, the software within the Passenger Sensing System may disable the front passenger airbag when it should be enabled, or vice versa. Malfunction will increase the risk of personal injury or death in certain crash conditions. Dealers will reprogram the passenger sensing module.
2009 Jaguar XF
Vehicles affected: 182
On certain vehicles, the instrument cluster speaker wires may fracture as a consequence of an overly aggressive turn signal sound wave form. This volume is vehicle speed dependant and at higher speeds, the wave form has an amplitude that aggravates the condition where speaker wires could fail. In the event of speaker failure, audible notifications such as turn signal, seatbelt warning, lights-on warning, driver’s door open, etc. will cease to function. Dealers will download the latest software into the instrument cluster and test the directional indicators for an audible notification.
2007 Firestone P235/75R15 FR380
Units affected: 850
Certain tires were produced with insufficient tread base gauge. Owners of the affected tires will receive a letter with instructions regarding the inspection and replacement of the tires.
