St. John’s, Newfoundland – Two of the Trailer Park Boys will compete in the ninth annual Targa Newfoundland road race in September, driving a 2010 Porsche Cayman S to raise money for the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
J.P. Tremblay, who portrays Julian in the show, and Robb Wells, who plays Ricky, will have their vehicle supplied by Porsche Cars of Canada. They will run in the Grand Touring competition; it is their first motorsport adventure.
The Autism Society is the official charitable partner of Targa and the focus of the event’s fundraising efforts with competitors, fans, sponsors and communities in the Targa family.
The actors will not be “in character” as the Trailer Park Boys during the rally. “To me, it’s about finally fulfilling a fifteen-year-old dream of J.P.’s and mine to compete in and finish a rally race,” Wells said. “At least one of those dreams will come true in Newfoundland, two if J.P. can keep the car on the road.”
Targa Newfoundland, one of three internationally-recognized Targa motorsports in the world, will start in St. John’s on Saturday, September 11, 2010 and return on September 18 after covering 2,000 kilometres, including up to 450 of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.
