Geneva, Switzerland – Toyota has unveiled its Yaris HSD concept at the Geneva Motor Show, an important step in the company’s full hybrid roll-out strategy in Europe. The HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) is based on the next-generation Yaris, which will launch in Europe in 2012.
Toyota aims to bring full hybrid technology to every main European model as early as possible in the 2020s. The Yaris HSD concept anticipates the company’s intention to bring a full hybrid system to the B-segment, the largest-volume segment in Europe.
The Yaris HSD shows the new design direction for the next Yaris model range, with contoured headlamps, shallow upper grille opening, sweeping roofline and single crisp character line. Short front and rear overhangs and a long wheelbase maximize passenger and cargo space.
The Yaris HSD has solar panels across its entire roof, targeting independent powering of the air conditioning unit for improved full hybrid powertrain fuel economy.
