Toyota receives waste reduction award

Torrance, California – Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. (TMS) has received top honours from the California Integrated Waste Management Board for its success in waste reduction and recycling. The company received the Waste Reduction Awards Program of the Year for its success at its headquarters campus facility and Los Angeles Parts Distribution Center (LA PDC). Toyota took the top spot over almost 1,200 other honourees.

TMS received the honour partly due to the LA PDC’s efforts to reduce waste generation by 40 per cent since 2003, using programs such as returnable shipping containers, packaging reduction and waste recycling. Additionally, the centre implemented an auto glass recycling program, recycling eleven tons of glass windshields since the program began in August 2006. In December 2005, TMS also achieved zero waste to its landfill at its headquarters campus.
