Torrance, California – Toyota Motor Sales USA has launched a safety recall that will involve approximately 134,900 Yaris vehicles sold in the United States.
The Yaris is equipped with front seat belt pretensioners that retract the belts to begin absorbing the occupants’ forward momentum in a severe frontal impact. On 2006 through 2007 model year vehicles, Toyota has determined that the seat belt pretensioner deployment may affect the sound-insulating foam in the centre pillar following a collision.
No reported cases of this condition have been found in the U.S. and no other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved. Toyota will notify owners, who can obtain repairs at authorized Toyota dealers.
