Toronto, Ontario – Toyota Canada will recall approximately 17,505 Toyota and 5,498 Lexus vehicles to replace the crankshaft pulley on the V6 engine.

There is a possibility that an insufficient amount of adhesive agent was applied between the outer ring and the torsional rubber damper (inner ring) in the crankshaft pulley. This could cause misalignment of the rings, causing noise and/or illumination of the discharge warning light. In some cases, the power steering belt could detach from the pulley, which could result in a sudden increase in steering effort.

Affected vehicles include V6-equipped models of the 2004 Avalon; 2004-2005 Camry, Camry Solara, Highlander and Sienna; 2006 Highlander HV; 2005 ES330; 2004-2005 RX330; and 2006 RX400h. No other vehicles or those equipped with four-cylinder engines are involved.

Toyota will send notification to owners of affected vehicles by mail once replacement parts have been produced in sufficient quantities. The notifications will be mailed beginning in early 2012.

Customers who have questions should contact their dealers, or call Toyota Canada at 1-888-TOYOTA-8 (1-888-869-6828) or Lexus of Canada at 1-800-26-LEXUS (1-800-265-3987).
