East Longmeadow, Massachusetts – The traditional Packard roadster used as a game piece in Monopoly has been replaced by a Toyota Prius in the newest “Here & Now Edition” of the 71-year-old board game.
Toy company Hasbro tallied almost three million votes in the U.S. and redesigned the game’s tokens using the results. In addition to the Prius, players can also use a New Balance running shoe, McDonald’s French fries, Starbucks coffee cup, cellular phone or laptop computer. The board also features airports instead of the traditional railroads, Internet service in place of a utility company, and higher-denomination money.
