Toyota heads list of automakers on top 100 global brands
New York, New York – Toyota has ranked highest among automakers on BusinessWeek’s and Interbrand’s annual ranking of the Best Global Brands, which publishes a ranking of the top 100 global brands by brand value. Among all companies, Coca-Cola retained the top spot; Toyota ranked sixth, behind Microsoft, IBM, GE and Nokia.
To qualify for the list, each brand must derive at least a third of its earnings outside its home country, be recognizable outside of its customer base, and have publicly available marketing and financial data.
Eleven automakers made the list; they are Toyota (6th), Mercedes-Benz (10th), BMW (13th), Honda (19th), Ford (41st), Volkswagen (54th), Audi (68th), Hyundai (72nd), Porsche (75th), Lexus (92nd) and Nissan (98th). The Hertz car rental agency ranked 100th.
