Düsseldorf, Germany – Toyota Motor Europe (TME) has won the 2011 Green Manufacturing Award at the fifth annual Strategic Manufacturing Awards held by the World Trade Group. The awards recognize outstanding achievements in the European manufacturing industry.

The Green Manufacturing Award acknowledges companies that clearly demonstrate unparalleled performance in environmental manufacturing. Considerations include maximizing energy efficiency levels, addressing water use and treatment, compliance with environmental regulations, and minimizing waste from the production process.

“This award recognizes the tremendous efforts by the members at all of our European manufacturing facilities who continuously improve and apply their knowledge and expertise of (the Toyota Production System) to their daily activities,” said Steve Hope, general manager of plant engineering and safety at TME.

From 2001 to 2009, Toyota’s European manufacturing facilities reduce the consolidated impact her vehicle in terms of energy consumption by 40 per cent, emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 51 per cent, and water use by 44 per cent.
