Toronto, Ontario – Toyota Canada has confirmed that stainless steel reinforcement bars being used to modify the accelerator pedals in models affected by a recall have been shipped to all 243 Toyota dealers as of Monday.

A precision-cut steel bar will be installed into the accelerator pedal assembly that will reduce the surface tension between the friction shoe and the adjoining surface. With this reinforcement in place, the excess friction that can cause the pedal to stick is eliminated.

“It’s our commitment to ensure we’re moving quickly to address our customers’ needs,” said Stephen Beatty, managing director of Toyota Canada.
