Lafayette, Indiana – Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) and Toyota have announced that Subaru’s Lafayette, Indiana plant has produced its first Toyota Camry.

In March 2006, SIA parent Fuji Heavy Industries and Toyota announced a collaborative agreement that would include Camry production at SIA. The plant, using a US$230 million investment, has the capacity to produce 100,000 Camry vehicles per year, using an additional 1,000 workers.

The plant also builds the Subaru Tribeca, Outback and Legacy, and produced about 120,000 Subaru vehicles in 2006. To thank the local community for its support, SIA and Toyota announced a US$60,000 donation to the local Columbian Park Zoo for its owl exhibit.
