Bangalore, India – Toyota has held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new auto parts plant in India. The plant will house Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts Pvt (TKAP), Toyota’s joint venture auto parts manufacturing company in India.
TKAP plans to produce approximately 100,000 engines per year at the plant, starting in the fall of 2012, and approximately 240,000 transmissions per year starting in early 2013, increasing the local content of the Indian-built Etios compact car. The investment represents approximately nine billion yen and will create 500 new jobs.
As part of its sustainable growth strategy, Toyota intends to increase local production in line with expansion in emerging markets.
